Looking really good their Joe - and I like the colour.

Yes, its easier mounting the subframe up and then dropping the motor in from the top!!

Cheers,
Tricky

I drove the car it came out of. Went quite well for an auto in a heavy car. Got a few more engines lined up so one of those will be forged internals and a bigger turbo on it.

more engines?? upgrading later?

Whayt do people think of the placement of the cage? I think it could go back further but without the bucket seats to make sure i cant decide.
Or does anyone have a sparco rev seat they can lend me lol?

Nice work on the cage.. i'm doing mine at the moment too. One question though - is this car not going to be road registerable? It's just that from what i've read the cage has to be a min. 150mm from the back of the drivers head to be legal, i.e. half cage. Unless I read it wrong...

I hadnt heard of that one. My engineer just said as long as it meets the minimum thicknesses for tubing and is mounted properly. Ive got it sorted either way though, rejigged the cage around and now the main hoop is closer to the middle of the side windows.

Joe,

You may want to check DOTARS VSB No. 14 I am sure a full cage is illegal.

Half cage is fine though.

Cheers,
Tricky

Very interesting, id only read the Queensland modifcations guide and spoken the the engineer briefly.
The dotars stuff is here http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/ ... eb2006.pdf

But i think ive found a loophole, it can be a 4 point with 2 points added for off road events, so the permanent points are the front roll hoop and the main roll hoop.
And it says that the centre roll hoop must be placed rearwards of the occupants heads to a maximum of 150mm. Seems a bit strange but better to keep the roof above the occupants whole.
It is going to be a 2 seater as well.

Ummm, no!

Refer to Figure LK15 in the NCPO VSB-14 Section LK - it strictly talks about main hoop and rear bracing, as shown in figure LK15. It does not say, not does it allow, the front bracing to be fitted to a standard road car as a permanent fixture.

Sorry to be a wet blanket, but I would hate to see your car get canned because of a misinterpretation.

Cheers,
Tricky

Its not really moved since the last update. I realised it was a massive project with a lot of skills required i don't have. Currently turboing and reshelling my soon to be daily with just a series power. Just to get the love of minis back.

But you came so far! Most of the work seemed to be done!

I found a "how to" document on the web for GT Starlet conversions in a mini. I could send that to you if it helps re-motivate you!

I am keen to do one of these myself but am disheartened that i never get to see any finished projects
