sorry about no updates, been doing other stuff.

Just a question, its time to buy a motor, heaps to choose from. Though I would ask here first.

What are your thoughts on a GT4 3SGTE - mounted in the rear like a MR2?

(gt4 cause the gear boxes are stronger)

im worried about

- overall size of motor/box/etc being to large
- weight, 3SGTE Engine Block w/ Head Total Weight: 350 lbs - 159.09kg

I was looking on the net, and they are cheaper then the other motors that I wanted to get, this one for example:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/JDM-Toyota-Celic ... dZViewItem

anyway, what are your thoughts? i just want to know if its to heavy, or if it will fit, if its all good then ill do it.

added - a few figures on the engine

3SGTE DOHC 4 belt 88 1998 190@6000 190@3200 3.39 3.39 8.5:1
3SGTE DOHC 4 belt 90 1998 200@6000 200@3200 3.39 3.39 8.1:1

That doesn't sound particularly cheap, especially since you don't get suspension and brakes etc. I've not been looking out for GT4 halfcuts though, so maybe this is a good price. If you can get one with all the bits, at least you can flog it off to help offset the initial outlay.
I would have thought you'd want the dash at least.

What would you do about the rear driveshaft from the gearbox??

Check out this link http://www.mr2mk1club.com/V6MR2.html
A smaller V6 would go really well in the back of a Mini I reckon.

3SGTE are a brilliant motor - basis for many motorsport classes in the US.

I have seen them pump out 700-800 horsepower with stock crank and block they are that strong. Problem is, 2.0litres and turbo-charged so not allowed under DOTARS legislation.

You want the unit out of a MR2, not GT4 Celica. You will pay a premium of the AWD capability.

All up will be comparable weight-wise with an A-series, but with 4x the hp. Rear mount(actually mid-mount) and RWD will be an awesome weapon with the extra weight on the back axles helping in the traction and braking department.

This site will be a good source if you go the 3SGTE route:

Cheers,
Tricky

Hey everyone,

god ncis was good tonight...

anyway, thanks for the speedy, and helpful replies!

I was only going to use the gt4 box because its stronger, thats all.

I want to use a 3sgte because while I was running at power from the past this year, there was a very, very tuff yellow ta22 celica, with a VERY hot, fast loud off the show 3sgte in it, and got me thinking how I could just use the whole lot out of a mr2 etc. and look, its already been done.

Now all i have to do is get onto sss automotive etc, and get a rear cut.

SOMEONE BUY MY DELUXE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Right,

SSS automotive quoted me $2800 for a gen 1 or 2 mr2 rear cut + $800 postage

Japparts.com.au quoted me SW20 MR2 3SGTE manual half cut $3950. Freight for this to Hobart, Tasmania is approx $650

Or

I am able to import a whole mr2 for around $5000 landed. I could strip what i need and sell the rest.

you will probably get a lot of your money back selling off the parts for the full car
so i'd say the $5000 one sounds pretty good
