hi,
ive got my mini insured with shannons (pretty standard car) and i asked how id go about insuring my car with a VTEC. they said itd be fine, even though im 17 and just got my licence. they insured me cos i rebuilt it. in other prove youre an enthusiast and theyll insure anything.

They insured you at 17!

Buggers wouldn't LOOK at me until 25 - not a mark on my driving record. :(

Give GIO a go, they do cars older than 25years. Insured my mini-swift for $248.

its not the age thing its just a underwriting excuse that the person you spoke with should not have used.

It is easier to tell people that they wont insure u because you are young, as opposed to they dont like your driving habirts, or where the car is parked etc.

for the record i started a ryno policy today, but have kept the sunshine with shannons. just wanna test them out.

Go crash your car tomorrow and let us know how it goes. :P

I used to have the Mini insured with Vigil 3PF&T, but after a few years the premium suddenly went up substantially because they had changed underwriters or something, so I took my business to Shannons, and got full comprehensive insurance for less. I have never dealt with them over the phone, I go to their shopfront as then they can see who I am and can see the car is genuine and they know I'm an enthusiast. They didn't have a problem with my age. I'm hoping they will insure my motorbike too, but they won't let you use it for commuting at all which is a shame.

The horrible reality is that crashing my car will be the true test!! so lets hope it doesnt happen.

Yopur second point i highlighted is EXACTLY what i am cautious of Ryno doing. It is VERY common practice. get u on board and then jack up ur premium.

I am with rhino ( just cars insurance) and they are great. Someone crashed into the back of my mini and I called them, they said that even though the other insurance company was paying I could still choose the panel beaters and they chased the other insurance company to get the money. All I did was drop the car off and pick it up, no paying and being reimbursed or anything.

In my last job I had a client that worked for shannons and he steered me towards Rhino as an ex shannons employee was starting them up and he said they offered the same as shannons just cheaper.

yeah... really :)
Now i have shiny fresh new back doors on my van.... they make the rest of the car look old and crap as i think they are the original colour not the faded wornout colour of the rest of the car
