I think we need to consider efficiency v's economy.

Honda's are highly efficient, as are top fuel dragsters. However, not very economic (top fuel dragsters).

yeah...

efficiency = power output per cc of engine size and gallon of petrol.
economy = distance covered per cc of engine size and gallon of petrol.

still dont reckon top-fuel dragsters are either efficient or economic...dont they use like 15 gallons (50 odd liters) per 400m? so they sure as HELL arent economic :P sure they output MASSIVE numbers and cover that 400m faster than anything on wheels...but i dunno how efficient that is :P there'd be a fair amount of wastage :P those flames pouring out of the exhaust pipes would reduce their efficiency rating i would say...

Yeah, drag cars run EXTREMELY rich mixtures (hence the flames of unburn fuel out the exhaust).

Modern EFI cars (Honda, Toyota, etc) use an O2 sensor to keep the engine running perfect stoichiometric fuel/air mix under normal driving. This goes out the window if you drive at WOT all the time though :)
