Right, was all set to do final welding on the queue-jumping Valiants A pillar today, but it has poured rain all day here, it still is actually.
Nup, too wet to weld out there…
However, the Morris is in the shed, so since I had all the stuff ready to go, it got a bit of attention instead...
Managed to get a fair bit of this tricky repair to the rear wheel arch done.
This is how it looked after I discovered it.
The PO must have tried to fix this, somone had soldered a piece of tin over the hole and bogged it all up. Needless to say, underneath was very nasty. Rust right through from door jamb to inner guard. I think this was the location of one of BMCs notorious "sponges".
Did the inside of the arch first.
This pic shows the profile that had to be recreated in steel.
Now while I am getting reasonably confident with this rust repair caper (I have just replaced the entire floorpan of the above mentioned Valiant) there was no way in hell I could make that with 1 piece so it was made up from a bunch of bits. Pretty happy with how it's going so far, not exactly a show quality file finish, but a crap-load better than what was there, and it will be covered with a flare anyway.
And I painted these the other day when I had the paint out.
Custom radiator surround/shroud which locates the recored 1100 radiator at the front of the engine bay. Weird shaped I know, but it works.
You can kinda see how it goes together in this pic. This is looking from the engine side.
And while I'm here, I made this the other day. It's the cutout in the inner guard for the alternator. Still to be welded in. And yes the shape is a touch wonky, but you won't really see it once it's in.
So there you go, I think it will be fine tomorrow so it will be back to the Val, but some progress is better than none. I think I will lose custody of the Mig I currently have over christmas so I might try to get a bit more done before I have to give it back.
Cheers
