Won't happen - ceramic coated inside and out!

Funny that.

When JC's brother got his Starlet custom EM coated, one could rest your hand on it and not get burnt, and the car had just been driven hard.

I know there is different levels of heat resistance available - Josh, what temp coating is yours??

Cheers,
Tricky

do they coat the insides too !!! ???

i didnt know that i tout it was just the out side of them... i rekon the engine bay would look a hole lot neater if you made up some sort of stainless steel heat sheild any ways??

wataya rekon?

rest your hand on it

what about the chrome plated ones? do they reflect heat?? i heard there only for show and once they get heat in them they go all blue like a heat shrink?

No idea on the temp rating - it's definately 'cooler' to the touch and it's not glowing red hot, maybe i'm just a pansy  - It has been coated inside and out.

Thanks Josh.

According to my investigations there are 2 seperate HPC-type coatings.

The first one is rated at 750 degrees and is available in virtually any colour.

The second is rated at 1500 degrees and is available only in a matt/satin black.

JC's brother had the higher temp rated coating, and it has to do with the quantity of suspended ceramic 'chips' in the matrix. The higher the temp, the more chips, but also the dearer the cost.

I hope this is of help.

Cheers.
Tricky

ahh cool thanks i didn't know the ratings but i was aware that the black was the 'best' for temp.

Mine being nice and shiny obviously makes it less effective :)

Hi All,

Just an update on Barbie, and where we are with her.

Dropped into the fabricators today, and they had finished the exhaust manifold, and had started woking on the dump pipe. I must say, that the manifold does look good, and will look great once the HPC coating goes on.

We will take Barbie back home this Saturday, to have the guards altered to suit the bigger (wider) wheels, and test fit a few other things, like the flares, inlet pipes, airbox and so on. Then its all back together, and off to the auto electricians - so we shouldn't be too far away from a finished product - perhaps 6 weeks!

Anyway, here are some pics of the finished manifold, so enjoy!

More updates later.........

Hey Tricky i was pondering some time ago about these sort of brake discs, i have a similar style with the groves.... Now do you know or does anyone know which way the groves are meant to go? Like in the picture below, the groves are sorta against the drive? Do they do this to enhance braking by making it a rougher (if you like) surface or do they go the other way?

I'm pretty sure he's got them the right way in that pic, the grooves are there to wipe the pads clean and keep the crap off them, centrifugal force will drive the crap outwards along the grooves, if they were pointing the other way, the grooves would be trying to drive the crap into the centre of the rotor, and would work against the centrifugal force

very impressed with the high flow design of that EM, and the clearance it and the turbo has to the front of the car. A trial fit in a roundie would be very interesting

Hi Gordo,

Simon has it pretty right. The grooves not only wipe the face of the pad clean but also help to degas the pad face, thereby increasing braking efficiency.

Holes also do it, but they tend to crack from hole to hole under heavy sustained braking.

Cheers,
Tricky
