IMO only, if your going to goto the trouble of a custom manifold you may aswell get a t2, tdo4 or even T3 flange put on it. The ct9 is a good little turbo but it does have it's limits and to get it to push air like a bigger turbo its always running on 100%. You can go a ct12, ct20 upgrade but they are getting rare and expensive to rebuild.

Reason i went the T25 is ease of getting second hand, cheap if you need to rebuild and there are hundreds around. it will be alittle laggier then the ct9 but you will not feel any lag in a 700kg car with 13inch wheels, trust me.

If there is just no room to go bigger in a roundie i would sitck with the stock manifold and custom dump, you will get the most out the turbo this way, but it will not be as bling :D

This is what a T2 flange looks like inazuma_x

basically as i see it there are 3 things that you need to find room for: turbo (if you want a bigger one), radiator (well dah) and intercooler (if you dont wanna just go top-mount)

finding spots for 2 of these things is EASY...its the 3rd that is hard to fit :P

if you go the stock turbo you can put the radiator over the gearbox and leave the topmount IC in place...

if you wanna go bigger turbo then you have to do what dan has done (or some variation of it) and then you just need to find room for the radiator...front mounted radiators are always an option...but as there isnt much room up there after you've plumbed the turbo in...it will stick out a fair bit...personally i am gonna go with a laterally mounted turbo...sitting close to the front of the gearbox (about an inch back from where it sits on the stock, except far over on the passenger side...hope you get what i mean :P having trouble explaining this)...then there should be a MUCH shorter route for the exhaust to go than dan's turbo placement and the dump pipe can run down the front as it does in the stock setup...this leaves the wheel arches as about the only spot left for radiators...i am considering twin radiators under each arch...but dunno yet...gonna get everything mocked up in cardboard (andy ;)) and see whats left in terms of room for the radiator and intercooler...

Dont supra's run ct9's They may have different flow patterns ,if you are running the same size ct9 you may gain power with the supra unit or loose power (might be worth researching this)

Sorry to get a little off topic... But do you have any pics of a lengthened roundie?
Cheers

I went the ct9 for ease of installation and plus I have no $ :) I will get her on the road and the worry about turbo mods. Far easier when the thing runs (tuning, dyno etc).

Personally, I would be quite happy with 135hp@ wheels in a mini......it's alot more than any mini engine, and with the standard CT9 it'd make the power in a broader, lower down rev range, which would make it much nicer to drive.
Having said that, with any car, you will get bored of the power after a while, and will want more.....It is exciting have a car just go ballistic on you when it hits 4000rpm, but you dont want to HAVE to rev it hard just to feel that you have more power than stock.

Another thing, minis in general have a limited selection when it comes to tyres, and that selection is only going to get worse with the trend towards bigger and bigger wheels on new cars, and if you cant put the power to the ground....what's the point of spending all the money to get it?
Just a few of my thoughts on the matter.....I will try and do a dyno graph overlay of my TD04 equipped starlet with my mate's CT9 one, to give you an idea......

thats why i am planning on building the car so everything is in a more easily upgradable position (ie. not a front mounted turbo coz that means you are stuck with small ones like the ct9) and step the power up till i got "whoa...that's enuff...anymore and i'll die" and then when i get bored of that power setting...step it up a few notches more
