my best advice is to save some money for some decent vented brakes, you don't want your project not to stop, and try and get all you need from the motor and a bit more i.e. some wiring.

if the shell isn't that good then get to work on that. Make sure theirs not much rust in it and clean it all up a little.

I am not sure on engineering in NZ, but I think it's similar to AUS, talk to an engineer. and I remember not all that long ago their was a nice blue one put together in NZ, have a look through the pages on here it was impressive.

Good luck and look forward to seeing some pic's of the progress

this one!

really neat job too - since the honda city brakes aren't vented, you shouldn't need vented brakes - just use the honda ones

Where you at in NZ mate? Check out member "mymini" and his build-did a very nice conversion.
Obviously it will need certifying so approach a certifyer and get some guidelines before you start the build.
oh and more advice would be to get good brakes-look on trademe for some Metro vented setups.....steer clear of aussies pushin' dodgy converted drum brakes....lol

Cheers

Glenno

(awaiting the uproar)

How long is a piece of string? Your question gets asked alot-there are no easy answers, it comes down to a host of factors....but like you've alluded to-having skilled people around you that you can lean on for some help or advice goes along way doing these conversions.
I opted for the Vtec-1600cc.....did everything myself-except for exterior paint-made the subframe, drive shafts, everything-and I think I could burn about $8000 in machining easily-but I wanted everything done right and when your machining stuff for yourself you take extra care and alittle longer on the finishes.
What skills do you have? Trust me-if you're committed to this conversion you will know more when you've finished-much more......When it came to wiring the car I was quotted upwards of $1000, too expensive for me-so I looked around-did some reading and asked some questions-found a schematic for my engine on the interweb and went for it-was a very happy day when I turned the key and she roared into life........
Search and take the time to read this and other fourms-almost all the answers to all your questions are here........and be paitent......and ask sensible questions.......

Regards

Glenno
