Just wondering if anyone has thought about a conversion from a late 80's or 90 model Mazda 121 shade?
5 speed manual.
1.3L.
Free (that's the main reason why were thinking about it).
Anyone got and power and weight figures on these engines?

Our old '96 mazda 121 (Bubble) had a figure of 55kW but I'm sure the earlier ones would be under 50kW

The engine and box is huge, as it's basically a Laser/323 motor with a smaller bore and stroke. Yuck.

Don't spend $5000 to fit a free but crap engine. Spend $500-1000 on a better engine and end up spending $5500-6000 all up and have a better result. IMHO of course.

yeah i wouldnt take out a 40kw engine to put a 50kw engine with a slower 0-100 time in. buy a vtech

I think you can get better bang for your buck with another engine, even if you have to pay for it.

Yeah but the Mazda is around 270kg heavier than a mini so the 0-100 would be a bit closer. Also 53kw is 73bhp so comparing that to a mini is a bit better to.
But if the engine is a big fella that will make the conversion much harder. Might have a closer look at the dimensions of it but it looks like bit of a dud.

73hp can be achieved by a warmed over 1275 no problems.

That 73bhp mini lump could easily cost 5k though, and it doesn't have a 5th gear
I'm saying the 121 is a great idea just saying it's a little better than a std mini. Extra 20hp, 5 gears, parts may be cheaper and easier to obtain and if it gets forced induction a replacement engine will be easy and cheap to get aswell.
