Hi Marc,

Can't remember off the top of my head. I'll have a look next time, I think there was a tag attached to it.

It has been some time since I've provided any sort of update so I thought I might give it a go.

One thing that has always shitted me off about minis is there woeful seating position/ steering column angle/gearshifter location.

Of the 'must haves' that I specified for the Starlet conversion was the use of te Starlet column. Fitting the starlet column fixes just SOOO many isses.

Starlet loom plugs STRAIGHT in (think ignition, wippers, lights). Fairly important when the mini column had only non self-parking indicators.
Hight adjustable.
Collapsable.
The column is 'knucled' so you have the wheel DEAD CENTRE on the driver not scewiff when as is the case dicking around with the mini shaft.

So, after much arm twisting I talked Tricky into mounting the Starlet column. This is what we got sorted today......

Nice work guys. I agree wholeheartedly with you about using the starlet column. I'm going to use mine, but then, I'm going to use the rack and the power steering too...

What are you doing at the rack end? Are you going to machine a splined adapter type deal?

Cheers

Tricky came up with the ingenious idea of simply taking a couple of mm out of either side of the column to rack end. The starlet female spline is maybe one or two mm bigger than the mini male spline. So he took out a mm either side of the bit that clamps the female spline onto the male spline. We are yet to see if it the splines match perfectly and will only be able to tell under real world conditions. If there is any slipage it is likely that we will have to either weld the mini rack end onto the starlet column or get a custom one made.

JC, What's the latest? We've heard about the little run-away incident but any further progress? Will it be ready for the Muster like Tricky's

Zero progress on mine. The shell is away for repair but it always seems like it'll be "next week" that it will be started.

Not a cracker Mark. I've got the budget of the Jamacian Bobsled team at the moment.

Somewhat unlikely to be ready by the muster.

Oh, by the way Marc, the 'runaway incident' was my fault, not JC's.

Cheers,
Tricky

Had a few of the boys around on Sunday after the MOCQ cruize and after some gentle mocking/persuasion I'm going to give it a shot. I'll try and knock over one thing each night. We'll see how it goes.
