Post subject: | Smiths Tachometer Issues |
Hi everyone, I had a smiths tacho installed by the guy who services my ‘69 Mk2 Mini and it has never run accurately. After running the car for 5-10 minutes it will register 4000rpm at idle !! Also the glass was broken during installation Any advice on what I should look for to resolve the tacho issue and also thoughts on replacing the glass? Also, the garage were great - not criticising them at all Cheers |

There are conversion and or replacement circuits for these Smiths tachos in the UK for DYI use: https://www.spiyda.com/tachometer-electronics.html Otherwise you will need an instrument repairer, who might have access to a replacement crystal. Most Smiths tachos have a plastic "glass" with the red pointer riveted onto it. Removing the bezel without damage is a patience tester! |
