Hi, Assembling my motor before it goes back into the car and bolting on exhaust and inlet manifolds. I've got a set of C-STR816 extractors and a C-AHT770 inlet manifold. I have 2 questions please: 1/. Do I use the large flat washers on the 2 outside studs (each end of the head)? On the old setup, these 2 studs didn't have washers on them. 2/. Do I use anti-sieze on the nuts? Thanks, Rocky |

A normal flat washer is perfect on the outers. Anti-seize isn't needed as the nuts used are brass, and these are used for that purpose alone. They won't seize onto the studs. |

In case it helps this is from the Cooper S parts book, related engineering drawings and Minisport SA website. The nuts (illust. #13 - qty 6) are part AYA47 (Australia) or 51K1177 (UK), the two external washers (illust. #15) AYG12 or PWZ105 (Australia), and the four internal washers (illust. #14) 12A1211 or 2A110 (UK). Run into a bit of trouble bolting it on and here's some pics to help show what's up. I'm not sure why 2 of the pics showing the diff etc are rotated but I can't seem to get them the right way up no matter what I try. When you click on them they come up the right way though. First up, the thick original washers don't quite seat inside the cutout part of the inlet manifold. No big drama as I'll grind off a bit to suit but thought this info may be of use for others when fitting the manifolds in the car as it would be hard to see the problem. Easy when the motors out though. The next issue is the clearance between the exhaust and the drive joint. It's only about 7mm. Will make doing up the uni joints interesting I think. Is that amount of clearance OK? Lastly, I'm having a problem with the bracket that I bolted to the diff housing that the extractors clamp onto. As it is now, the exhaust is sitting hard up against the bracket and I'd have to put a fair bit of pressure on the exhaust in order to get the clamp in place. Have I got the bracket on the diff housing in the right spot? The extractors came with a clamp and extension bracket but there's no way I need the extension part. Thanks, Rocky |

Thanks Timmy. That's the bracket you pointed out last time and that I tried to get but MiniPlus had an NOS one that I bought and put on. It's a fair bit different to the one you have. Looks like back to the drawing board. |

Hi. Not an answer to your questions sorry but just something for you to confirm. In your last photo are the flanges for inlets and exhausts the same depth? Otherwise you may need to step a couple of washers as well as remodel the others for shape. On one of my motors ( not aiming for authenticity but am aiming for sealing (or should that be ceiling... pun intended) i think i have no two washers the same. |

Hi FNQ. Thanks for that. I had read about this potential issue and I measured them before fitting. They are within a bees of being the same thickness. So close I didn't actually record the measurements. I considered filling the inlet one to make them exactly the same but thought I'd leave well enough alone and have a flat surface rather than a crooked one I'd most likely end up after I attacked it with a file!
