Post subject:  22a1128 gearbox - value?

I have a 3 synchro 22a1128 gearbox that is complete and came out of a running car. A friend is interested in one to rebuild. What do people think is a fair asking price for a 3 synchro box that is complete (but presumably will need a full overhaul)?
Cheers

Not sure on the going price but it would be worth more if it was a late MK1 S box just before the change to the 22G1128. Does it have a 12FA serial number on the front?

And depends on if it’s standard ratio or close ratio gears, the final drive too

I had one that was 3.44 and Cooper S close ratio

If 3-synchro, 22A1288? It was the stronger iteration of the 3-synchro 'box design with larger boss through the layshaft @ both ends - amongst other design changes.

If serial is as per the reference above, they (presently) don't fetch the asking prices of the '333, but a consideration nonetheless...

Hinesy thanks, I got the casting number wrong. I will have to check the serial number but I doubt it is an S ratio box. It came out of a 65 Deluxe (my first Mini) and would be standard ratio and 3.765 diff I expect... I will have a closer look when I pull it out.

I am interested in the serial number if possible. I have a few photos of the 22A1288 and so far have worked out

12FA 12345 was on the MK1 S engines from around 9FSAY 50000.

Numbers in the 60000 range were on the Morris 1100.

Numbers in the 30000 range were on the Morris 1100S.

5/1234 which I think are Deluxe. (5 relates to the YDO code)

R1234/4 (The 4 could relate to the YDO code)

Some UK boxes with serial numbers in the SFB30000s and 90000s

The Morris 1100 - whether 'S' or 1100 - also had this later non-synchro 'box, however with the stamped coding 'R[i]xxxx[i]/4. Unsure of the '4' association, as the 'Basic' package for the Morris 1100 range was the only model coded YMG2S4 - the 1275 models being YMG2S2, and I believe these later 'box's were introduced throughout the entire range.

Like the diff housing, the cases within the 1100 range also had a married flywheel housing stamped accordingly - the later casings also incorporated larger locating dowels.

Mea culpa - I dragged out this gearbox tonight to look at the numbers... Turns out my memory is lousy. It is not a 22A1228. It is a 22G382 with a remote diff, which makes it a B type 3 synchro box. As it came out of my first Mini (a 65 Deluxe) I suspect it was likely the original transmission fitted to the car, even though it had a 1098 motor from a Morris 1100 fitted.
Apologies for any confusion! I haven't checked the laygear but I'm 99% that it will be a standard wide ratio gearset and 3.7 diff setup.
Cheers

I have a 22A1288 = R8865/4 box with no gears or layshaft which I would like to build. Which items do I need to fill the box. I guess it 3 speed synchro?

Its a 3 syncro box from a mid 1968 1100S. Engine number would have been around 12DTAH 8800s. Not sure what all the part numbers are that you will need to fill the box.

I thought all Morris 1100S's had 4 synchro gears!

The 22A1288 was a 3 syncro standardized box used over a few models from early 1968 to early 1969. Deluxe , Cooper S, Morris 1100, Morris 1100S, Moke - etc

Here are a couple of other Morris 1100S boxes and the engines they are fitted to.You can see the serial numbers are close to the engine number

22G333 R1057/3 - Aug-67 fitted to 12YTAH 1042
22A1288 R10357/4 - Jul-68 fitted to 12YDTAH 10355
22A1288 R15842,4 - Mar-69 fitted to 12YDTAH 15849

I have a 22G68 3 synchro from an MG1100 I'll never use. Has gearset, no diff no diff housing. Looks good inside.

Nup, not even the last of them..

I have a 333 case out of an early 1100S, there's something I never knew existed.

At least the early 1098 engined 1100s had 22G68 gearboxes
