ausmini :: View topic - Smiths Gauge Service/Repair

Can anyone recommend an individual or business that could repair my 120mph Smiths speedo?
Generally I can do most mechanical work but I broke the needle shaft when gently removing the needle. I am not keen on stripping it down myself given I didn’t make it past 1st base.

I’m sure that Gary at Ringwood, Peter at Auto and Marine or Dad and I at Howard Instruments can help you. We all have reasonable experience with Smith Instruments.
Howard Instruments is a formal distributor of Smiths Instruments in Australia.
Dad was appointed a Smiths Service Agent in April 1971 which is longer than any other individual still working in the world. 49 years and counting
Any other suggestions are motivated by personal vendettas and will be called out.

You understood what you posted was against Forum rules which of course meant intervention by a moderator. I think it's unfair to expect moderators to read every post and then to respond to those that are intentionally provocative. We are all volunteers and have other things in life to attend to, especially at the moment. If you have a gripe with a business contact them and don't air it on here.

Often when one retires, especially after a long career in one field, one finds that no one seeks your advice anymore. Colleagues and businesses you once worked with go on as if you never existed. One can compensate for this by taking on an “emeritus” role and do good works for your past employer for the sake of retaining an office; or go in for a brand new hobby; get involved in an internet forum and offer valuable advice to those you feel would benefit from your decades of experience; or criticise and insult everyone in sight so that you are guaranteed an audience. No matter which course you choose, you become listened to again. “Look what I know,” you say to everyone. You feel important. You are relevant once more.

If you said where you are located it would expedite a relevant response.

I am sure the rest of us don't want Ausmini to get a bad name because of one bad egg.
