Hi all, Haven’t driven the car in a few months as it needed a new fuel pump. Changed the pump, which lead to more pressure which caused the fuel filter to leak. Changed that, which lead to one of the fuel bowls to leak. Fixed that. Started the car. Started first go. Let it warm up a little. Reversed out the driveway, into first gear. Took off okay but then bogged down. It almost had no power. Revs okay at idle, but under load it bogs down and has no go. What should I be checking. Plugs were very black, so gave them a clean. There is spark at all four leads, however when I pull the leads off the two passenger side cylinders there is almost no change. Any advice would be much appreciated. |

Did you change the fuel? I reckon that it's gone stale. EDIT: you have twin SUs? Stale fuel has gummed up one of the carbs is my bet. |

Maybe also check the dashpot oil |

What’s the best way to test for stale fuel without dropping everything in the tanks? Run a hose to a jerry can? How would you go about cleaning a gummed up su? |

See if the piston lifts and drops freely first. Does fuel flow from the bowl to the jet? If not maybe there is a product for cleaning? |

TK, you just jogged my memory. The piston had seized about 6 months ago, causing the same issue which I easily fixed. I’m almost certain this will be the problem. |

What sort of fuel pump? If aftermarket, maybe you need a regulator... |

It’s a mechanical pump |

As Tim said, it’s a mechanical pump. The carbs are twin 1 1/4 inch SU. I had a quick look this morning and the jet on the bottom of the passenger side carb was stuck out. I released it will a little wiggle. This has happened before? How do you all recommend tackling this? New kit through the carbs? Clean and lube? How would you do this? Any advice welcome. |

it's probably more the linkage binding somewhere than the jet being stuck down - see if you can get it to stick down by playing with the cable/linkage/jet and fix whatever is making it stick |

Centralise the jet. |

Bit of a clean and jiggle and the jet is returning just fine. Ran like a dream. I’m a happy man again. |
