Post subject:  Radiators for originality

Hi All,
Those of you that restore your cars to original condition, was wondering what is best done for radiators.
I am going to the effort of restoring cast iron water pumps and also using original hose clamps, leads, cooler hoses etc etc and would like an original looking radiator
but also want it to be reliable. What can be done? I have a new Minispares rad and thought about having the top tank changed. Thoughts.....
Cheers
Ian

The original radiators, once cleaned and in good condition are excellent, and work well into the 40 degree days on a 1275. If it is anything less, then this will be noticeable.

The aftermarket copper radiators, while still excellent, look quite different in the top tank and in fins per inch. They do a great job though. If you want a little of both worlds, and an old radiator isn't available in good shape, then solder an original top tank onto a new radiator. Looks great, works great and is inexpensive.

I had an original Newcell top tank soldered onto a new radiator for my 850
