I'm wanting to remove the terminals from the wiring block that feeds the rear part of the wiring harness - so those wires can be removed for painting.
I am using a cheap tool to collapse the tangs on the terminal but it doesn't work well. Suspect its ID isn't tight enough to collapse the tangs and let the terminal slide out. Took a long time to get one out of this spare block I'm using for practice.

Does anyone have advice about tools and methods that will work?

I found a cleaning brush for spray paint gun nozzle worked well for me. I had a bunch of different size ones and tried them until I found the right size. Used a magnifying glass and jeweler's screwdriver to bend the tangs back. Did about 6 harnesses as was fixing an electric bike.....seemed to work fine.

The above procedure worked for me doing the same job you're doing. Basically, the smallest flat blade in the jeweler's set.

Jaycar have different sizes of "Pin Extractor" tools which seem to work better than the type in your pic. They have a pin inside the tube that you press to push the connector out of the connector block. They cost approx $20-$25 each.
I bought the 26 piece set like yours which also has all sorts of extractor tools for flat pins as well including some that are similar to the jeweller's screw driver approach. The round pins make it difficult to get a small screwdriver down inside the connector block.
I ended up using the Jaycar one.

I pulled a telescopic radio aerial apart and used the appropriate sized section. Worked very well.

I expected the tool should be a tube that pressed the tangs in. Will try Jaycar option but the aerial is a brilliant alternative, especially that it worked.
Thanks all.

I cant imagine why you would ever need to. The loom was installed from the front of the car, if you are trying to pull the plug through the firewall you are doing it wrong.

The block with all wires attached, fits through the hole in the firewall and is now sitting inside the A pillar but it won't go UP the A pillar due to unidentified restrictions inside the A pillar that only allow thin items through.
And I can't pull the wires from the boot end DOWN the A pillar because there are several groups of moulded terminals that need to pass through the A pillar together and won't pass through that way either.

I'm certainly open to other suggestions.
