The labels for the two Ramflo filter mesh covers that came with my car as part of the SPO41 package were missing so I have sourced some elsewhere. I've just noticed that there are two versions of the monochrome ID labels and I'm wondering which is correct for a 1970 vehicle. Can someone assist?

Of course it's not a big deal in the scheme of things but I have both types so think it's worth getting it right.







I'm aware that much later labels had some red colour on them.

My car, purchased 1978, late 1969 build, came with a pair of Type A's, may or may not be original though.

I thought Type A was first then Type B then the Red type last. I can't comment on the change point sorry.

Ram Flos were on my ex-SPO41 when I bought it in 1975. The original block had been over-bored and was worn out so I bought a new "S" block and kept using the Ram-Flos.
The new block had 10 thou wear in 20,000 miles and needed a rebore.
The wear was put down to the Ram-Flo filters. At that time, Ram-Flos didn't use any oil in the foam, so they allowed fine grit into the motor. The filters were just meant to be washed in soapy water then fit them dry.
Ended up making my own filters using off-the-shelf paper elements from another model and have never had that sort of problem again.

I threw out the Lynx filters; could have sold them or even given them away. But I wouldn't wish the consequences on anyone else.
So, I'm sorry, but I can't help you decide which tag to use.

I use Unifilter oiled foam pads in them, never had a problem with bore wear.
P/nos:
LNX300 for SU and LNX400 for Weber and Dellorto. They come pre-oiled.

How often should these filters be changed I wonder. I suppose it depends on the driving conditions.

You can wash them out with turps, air dry and re oil.
But at $10 each it's easier to replace. I did every 5000 miles. You could go 10,000 on sealed roads. Amazing what grit comes out when washed.
Use Unifilter oil.
