Preparing to rebuild a 4 synchro remote gearbox, washing and cleaning some new parts.
This is the new 1st/2nd gear synchroniser I bought some time ago for the job.

I thought it was from Mini Spares but the plastic bag didn't have their usual tag - just a texta part number, but the assembly came with a "genuine" piece of string tying the 2 parts together.

My problem is that the inner hub and outer cone don't look like they are aligned correctly: the inner hub has 3 cut-outs. However they don't match the 3 gaps where the outer cone has gaps in the gear teeth.

The workshop manual covers the 3 synchro gear, but not much on the 4 synchro setup.

Can anyone confirm the outer ring should move 2 splines clockwise (before I start chasing detent balls)?
Thanks all.

It's just been assembled out of position. Put in a plastic bag and push apart.
I have a tool to fit the balls and springs but you can use a big hose clamp or a piston ring compressor.

Post it up if you like, me fixum. :)

Thanks for the offer and the information.
Reassembly isn't a problem. Have already cleaned and assembled the 3/4 hub.
Just needed confirmation this one was out of position.

Thanks, again.

Offer was not taken up on this occasion, but what a selfless offer by drmini, what a great bloke!

Agreed.
An all-round 'useful little engine".

Make sure you assemble the inner and out the correct way around. The long boss in the centre points in the same direction as the long boss on the outer.
If you get this wrong, it will all go back together OK, but from memory synchromesh on second won't work.

Thanks for the comment. I am aware of the alignment but it's worth you mentioning it. You don't know what I don't know (I think I got that right) but I appreciate your reminder in case I didn't. Thanks for the thought.
