Hi, I am not so sure its a boat anchor. First I always crack test 1100 cranks before using them. An engine reconditioned can do that Second I personally have not seen a crank break at that point, but I have seen many 1275 build up a lump on the outside at that area when one of the wrong taper UK race flywheels have been fitted , or a standard heavy A plus flywheel has fretted., or a flywheel has come loose It does not appear to have built up, or deeply cut into the area Three I would lap a good flywheel that you intend to use onto the crank, with valve grinding paste. You will need to see a clear seat over the full area. Thoroughly clean off the paste. If it looks good, and you know its not cracked, and not a race crank, I personally would use it A bonus for me would be a lighter than standard flywheel/ clutch assembly, and all full balanced. If you balance it, get the balancer person to check the run out of the flywheel on the crank Also from the photo, it appears the crank is a bit rusty, I think that is ok on the primary gear area, but never never where the engine bearings run. I agree with lomin. Re the rust, my 1275S crank laid in dirt under a house for 14 years and is pitted worse in that area. It has since been in 3 different motors and still running fine. And it has seen 8300 rpm on track days in the past. |

Thanks for the replies Think I will get it check and machined before use which is still a way off yet. But didn't want to waste time in sending it away then be told it wasn't any good. |
