Post subject:  Help required with early bodyshell

Hi all , picked up an early bodyshell today with no ID tag attached, has five numbers on the radiator surround and five numbers in the bulkhead , one would immediately say just a 850 ,,,,but it has factory spot welded heater brackets with the original untouched paintwork ; even the original factory trim and glue over it also,, plus the fresh air ducting in through the bulkhead,if anybody could shed some light , I’m not up on pre 65 stuff.
Thank you

Look for a build code on the radiator shroud.

From mid to late 1963 the 850s body number moved to the radiator shroud with a build code stamped M2/15 in a circle.

Earlier 850s had their body number hidden under their ID plate. I am not sure of the changeover to the radiator shroud but it was between car 30295 and 40060.

Being 5 digits it shouldn't be a Cooper but an extra digit may have been added by a previous owner doing a dodgy. The later Coopers have M2/50 in a circle.

Thanks for the info , don’t believe anything dodgy , this body has been stored for 40 plus years ,, found old receipts for stuff when cleaning the mountain of junk out of it, the floor is untouched , it’s the heater brackets that caught my attention when I lifted the rubber mats

My mid 1963 850's both have the heater j brackets. Nothing special about them!
