I bought the car in bits and as it is my first Mini I am having fun working out where the bits go but this bracket has me beat. Please help!

Excellent thanks, looks easy when you know where to look!
Now my next problem, I have replaced the steering rack, OK job with the engine and interior out, and in one of the boxes of bits I found the blinker switch shroud but it appears to be too long. With it against the column mounting bracket it comes up past the steering wheel by a couple of inches. Are there different shrouds or possibly not the right column as it was only loosely fitted to steer the beast when I bought it.

You've got the number plate bracket upside down

There are different length steering columns and 2 different shrouds.
You probably have a later column which is shorter, you need the mk2/later shroud which is also shorter.
(and usually cheaper)

I didn't know that either. How much shorter are they? My steering column is way too long and I'm 189cm and have the seat right back. Would love a shorter steering column.

Thanks for that, I'm not sure how the blinker switch/horn etc fit up either but I have plenty of time to worry about that as it's off to the painter in the next day or so.

I am not sure exactly of the difference in lengths but it is significant. 80mm maybe?

FirstMini, I'll swap you my long column for your short one :D

Thanks MINI66, that would make the world of difference.

If you were a bit closer to Central Vic. I'd do that happily.
