Hi Guys Im looking at moving across to a High Torque starter motor and just wanted to know what is the better brand to buy these days i have seen a few on minisport.com.au Another question is there much involved in wiring them in, do you still need to have the starter Solenoid. |

Hi Auto electric on wheels Jimbooba QLD ( Tony B) does a remanufactured bosch unit that certainly does the job, Parts are also easy to come by. Go to the Mini owners Club of Qld website to get his email . He also can manipulate the throw distance ( my inexact terminology) if required. I ran mine without a further relay, but ideally it would be a good idea to preserve volts. Plenty of people say the original specced ones are up to the task and they may be right, but i was very happy with that unit in a race setting. |

I use the high torque one you have pictured there - can't fault it |

Wiring is easy, the solenoid is integral to the starter, so you actually simplify your engine a little. Connect the battery cable, connect the switch wire. Done. |

Might be so with these ones, however on other pre-engaged starters eg Gemini, the solenoid coil pulls around 35A. Far more than the Mini start circuit is rated at. So people either keep the Mini solenoid to drive the main one, or fit a Narva or Hella 40A relay to do this. |

Yeah for the one pictured, I just ran my massive gauge battery cable to the starter, then the light-gauge trigger wire to the solenoid, sorted. |

I have one, works a treat. Little fiddling to wind the bolt in as it’s a captured one. Apart from that, I’d never go back to the old bit of heavy junk. |
