Couple more questions.... what do people do when painting hinges? Do door hinges have a gasket and if so do you put door on with gaskets and paint over them? Same question with boot hinges. Seems like a dumb question but the doors didn't have any hinge gaskets when I took them off. Thanks |

Better to paint separately and then attach with the gasket after. If you paint them after attachment, the paint will crack as the hinge and panel flex. |

FirstMini wrote: Do door hinges have a gasket ... As indicated by Mick above yes they do. The usual Mini parts places can supply. Here's one example - https://minisport.com.au/door-and-boot-lid-gasket-set |

Make the gaskets yourself out of thin plastic sheet. This way water won't be absorbed like the cardboard gaskets ones. |

I've always painted the hinges off the doors and painted the edges of the gaskets in matching colour paint. I used to make gaskets from gasket material, but they absorbed moisture over time. As Doc said, ice cream containers, especially the flat lids, are a good source for making gaskets. I used white ice cream container lids to make gaskets for my last white car repaint. |

OK, another hinge question, do you all replace old hinges or fit new pins and bushes? I don't want drooping doors! Thanks again. |

Pins and bushes are the go. Check the threaded studs while you are there for any cross threading too. |
