My clubman came with a louvre that my wife seems to like. It is quite faded. Does anyone know of a way to restore it? I thought of spraying it but I am worried that it will look worse over time with peeling and fading in the UV light.
Any suggestions?

Thanks

Have you tried to polish it with fine cutting compounds or mag wheel polish

Silicon liquid.

Clean with wax and grease remover; spray with plastic primer; topcoat with 2 pack. Other finishes will struggle with UV exposure over time.
If you use anything with silicone it will stop paint adhering.

I don't know a lot about louvres, but worth keeping if it's Auger. They were the period Aussie piece.

But minis have very vertical front and rear screens - unlike modern car shapes - so don't need rear louvres or front sunvisors as much.

I use super fine steel wool and a bottle of this:

This stuff is incredible. I have used it heaps of times to restore all sorts of badly faded black plastics. I recently used it on the flares of the mini that were in a really bad way - faded and sun damaged. They look like brand new now. It did take a few goes but the finish is amazing. The stuff is a thick white cream that goes a long way. The steel wool helps to remove the sun damaged surface layer and allows the cream to do its work. But maybe try on somewhere inconspicuous at first.

I painted my louver about 18 months ago with a black plastic paint and it came up a treat and it still looks great. Image

Feed the plastic with 303 protectant.
Give it a good soapy wash, rinse and let it dry. Spray on 303 and rub it in as you would armour all 3-4 times, will come up new. 303 has not got any silicone in it at all. Brings fibreglass and plastic back to as new.
Fantastic product!
