So ive put the timing case on and im prepping to put the gbox on. Does the rubber half moon seal need to be trimmed to length or just crushed in? Also, i sunk the bolts in the plate, and checked the gear level but didn't think anything of the oil slinger. In the case. Am I buggered or will it be ok if its aligned correctly? Cheers.! Half moon doesn't need to be cut, and i would fit a oil slinger. |

Sorry, meant to say, i just put the original slinger back in. Will it get chewed up because of the duplex? The moon seal just seems to be too long and wide for the block side.. ![]() Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk |

Do not trim the half moon seal. But put plenty of sealant in the corners where its ends go. Always drop the gearbox onto the block, not vice versa. Watch the 2 dowels engage as you lower it. I've never had one leak there, fitted this way. Re the slinger there are 2 types. The early one has more offset and will rub on the duplex chain. Don't run this one, run without if you cannot get the later one. I have done this several times over the years without seal leaks. |

I don't know how to tell what it was! Is a 71 considered an early block? With the pulley off, i can make the slinger rattle under the seal if that makes sense so it has some clearance? Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk |

If you can rock it on the sprocket with the duplex chain on, it's the later one. |

It wasn't good. I pulled off the cover and it was very close to the chain. I'll get the newer one. Also, how do I check the sprockets? Do I need to pull the cam onto the thrust? Or push it? Lastly, is permatex form-a-gasket good for the half moon? Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk |

Later slinger is close to the chain but not touching. The sprocket doesn't wear at the thrust plate but the plate does. To check sprocket tooth wear, wrap a new chain around it and hold tight. If chain can't be lifted away from the sprocket it is ok. But sprockets are cheap now, change if worn. Permatex form a gasket is fine on the half moon, but not the timing cover. Because cover doesn't sit flat all over, silicone sealants are better here. |

It's a new duplex timing set so new sprockets. I mean do i need to pull the cam into the thrust surface and then measure if the sprockets are flat? I was happy with them but didn't think about cam float Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk |

Leave chain off, tighten cam's nut enough to pull it into sprocket. Put a straight edge across the sprockets. If not flat, add or remove a shim behind crank sprocket. Cam should have a few thou endfloat on thrust plate with nut tight. If much more change plate. |
