Post subject: | Tired of poor quality rubber fuel hoses |
Hello all, I'm having this problem with my Mini but also with other classics lately, in that I can't seem to find rubber fuel hose that lasts more than a year or two without perishing and leaking - it's the second time in 12 months I've had to change the fuel hose between the tank/pump and pump/fuel line in the 850 - I've used hose from several different auto parts stores - the hose is not curved/under tension or subject to excessive heat but it still keeps perishing, splitting and leaking. Looking for recommendations please on what type/brand of fuel hose others are using - if anyone has suggestions on a particular brand or info of a supplier it would be greatly appreciated. TIA. |

I use Dayco USA fuel hose, designed for E10 unleaded. I used it to join the RH tank. It stays flexible, I changed it after 10 years but it was still fine. |

Good advice Kev...nothing worse than seeing a fuel hose turning to jelly an wondering what it has done to your fuel system... |

Hi, I agree with DDK. The so called rubber in most items is nearly always rubbish. Today I have just replaced less then one year old EFI hose that was perished on the outside., under the rear, no sunlight. I thought it was in gates boxes when I bought it, but it is extremely hard to know if any rubber product is ok. I am now trying Eecel brand, made in Malaysia, cross fingers. I attempt to give chinese and indian rubber a miss., but who really knows 10 years ago I bet it was quality, genuine OEM stuff lasts almost forever , why can't the aftermarket ? and the answer is because they are doing it for a low price, and they do not have to meet OEM quality checks Another mini owner is a rubber specialist, and tells me a lot of rubber is recycled and chemically reconstituted He says you can taste and smell the chemicals. How many of you have had to throw away ball joint boots, cv boot, tie rod boots, petrol tank grommets, the list goes on, and it is the same for every make. Very frustrating I try to reuse as many original genuine rubbers as I can. Cheers Lindsay " Its the rubber products that let you down" |
