Post subject:  Oil pressure switch for 'idiot light'

Hi all, as per my build post viewtopic.php?f=3&t=98597&start=90 I am needing a switch for the oil pressure idiot light as it's sometimes called on here. I have found the original one and cleaned it up - it has some numbers on it as pictured D-87137 - MADE IN U.S.A. (I believe that's a "D" rather than a lowercase "n" at the start). But Google doesn't bring up anything that looks helpful.
Question is; is this original pressure switch that came with the mini?
And how to tell what pressure it's set to activate at?
Here's my original photo;

I would imagine that one will be fine to go again!

The factory ones were very low, like 10psi - by that time the engine was toast anyway. I would strongly recommend getting an aftermarket oil pressure gauge. You can get a T-piece so that you can use the original idiot light and the new gauge at the same time

Thanks Timmy201 and Stuwey, I had read that if it's factory it's probably 7-8psi which is too low (probably read that on Minisport and Minispares websites!) so I was hoping it's not the factory one. Is there any way to tell?
It has just the one terminal like the factory one, the 20psi ones have an earth terminal as well that I can see (and the 15-50psi ones are a bigger unit) - I'm just hoping somebody before has changed it so I don't have to!
It's not an urgent thing, I will have access to this bit of the engine even when it's in the car I guess - just while I remember.

And about the gauge - I'd love a gauge but they're getting a bit pricey! and I'm running out of room to put all the gauges I'd like, once I have water temp, exh temp, oil pressure and a few other things in the back of my mind...

You don’t necessarily need an expensive one. I’ll have an old oil pressure gauge you can have for free, you can buy the nylon line kits from any auto parts shop

You can buy switches that come on at higher pressures, I have a 25 psi switch in my car.
I run a light and a gauge.
I once blew an oil cooler hose and I saw the light come on and I turned the motor off before the gauge had even hit 20 psi.

On the topic of gauges being expensive and for me I want a less cluttered look but I have been curious about using a second temperature sender for oil and also hooking it up to my water temp gauge with a switch to flick between the two. A bit of wiring, a switch and an extra sender and I'd have the ability to monitor my oil temps as well.
