ADR 14 came into effect 1972 which specifies a RH external mirror, before that they were optional

The bullet style racing mirror was a genuine BMC accessory.

This is the mirror supplied by the dealer when we bought the mini K in 1969. Wibroc that clamped onto the leading edge of the door.
It is also the mirror that police Cs had fitted in the '69 - '70 period.

Bill, I have one of those for my car but have not fitted it yet. How are they for vision and vibration?

Despite looking a bit 'dodgey' they were as stable as a screw mounted mirror and larger than some of the torpedo mirrors. I can't remember any issues with becoming lose. At certain speeds, when the interior mirror vibrated so much to blur the image, you could check in the door mirror for a clear image.
I removed it when the mirror coating deteriorated. I have recently had it rechromed and a new glass cut.
There should be a small rubber gasket to protect the paint on the outside of the door from being scratched.
