I removed it when the mirror coating deteriorated. I have recently had it rechromed and a new glass cut.
There should be a small rubber gasket to protect the paint on the outside of the door from being scratched.

ADR 14 came into effect 1972 which specifies a RH external mirror, before that they were optional https://infrastructure.gov.au/vehicles/ ... les/14.pdf

The bullet style racing mirror was a genuine BMC accessory.

This is the mirror supplied by the dealer when we bought the mini K in 1969. Wibroc that clamped onto the leading edge of the door. It is also the mirror that police Cs had fitted in the '69 - '70 period.
