Sorry about all this stuff about temp gauges. The question is ,my temp gauge fluctuates ,normal driving shows about half way. At traffic lights gauge moves till nearly max.New engine water pump radiator etc. Can you get the gauge fixed if this is the problem ? or do I buy a new one ? I have tried a second hand tg and it did not work. Trying to stay original if I can.also new voltage stab fitted.

I wasn't sure if my gauge was working properly so i bought a new one from here, bloody good pricing and fast delivery as well.

My issue turned out to be a combination of things, but mainly the voltage stabliser wasn't earthed properly.

I'd be shooting an infrared thermometer at the engine when its idling before blaming the gauge... if its normal when driving and going to max when its sitting still then the gauge is probably accurate and the engine is just getting hot

the gauges either work or they don't. If you pull one apart you can see how simple they are, just wire wound around a metal strip. If one doesn't work then it's probably just a broken wire inside... I'm sure Howard Instruments etc.

Check your voltage stabiliser is earthed properly. Mine wasn’t and it was causing the gauge to max out.

My fuel gauge used to do this. The faster you went the slower it read. Then when stopped at the lights it would come back up!
But with car on stands at 100kmh it read fine.
Problem was body vibes affecting the voltage stabiliser which is a bimetallic strip vibrator.
A new Wombat electronic one fixed it.
