Just went to order a new front apron on 77 leyland and found two different types one bolted direct to sub frame and one that uses rubber mount. The current apron had a gap from the sub frame where rubber would have been but they are missing. Car has had a new apron which wasn't fitted properly ,inner wings etc are butchered. So what is the advantage of the rubber over solid not to worried about originality as car isn't a S or LS plus will have other Mod's latter during rebuild.

Rubber mounts were not fitted to Oz built cars... Unless your Clubman(?) has internal door hinges it was Made in Oz and should have solid mounts.

There should not be a gap but if a PO did extensive front panel work the bracket that the subframe bolts to may be missing .... or it was just a dodgy repair.

The rubber was adopted in the UK as an NVH abatement measure. The downside was handling anomalies once the mounts deteriorated....

If fitting the UK Clubman panel you need either 2 teardrop rubber front mounts or solid alloy replacements.
My son's Clubman is like this, the Australian made panel has not been available for many years. Someone has fitted the Pommy replacement.

The front apron has been replaced I have already purchased the rubber mounts with early order when I saw them listed on MKO so I wouldn't forget them when I ordered all the front panels.
During the week started to make a list of parts for order and MKO have two different type of leyland front the Aus and Uk version. The apron panels have never been attached to subframe since I have been involved with the car. Will I notice and extra noise if direct fitted to sub frame?

Interesting... so does the Aus subframe accommodate this? UK rubber mount subbies ones are different - at the rear at least..

The UK front rubbers can be fitted to Oz subframe. On UK cars the whole subframe was rubber mounted at top and back as well. You could wiggle the steering and watch the subframe move. Dumb idea IMO.

@Lyddo I would fit alloy but it won't make any noisier, the subframe is already bolted solid at top and rear.
