Post subject:  Cooper S Original Extractors
About to refit a new exhaust on to the cooper s.
When fitting a clamp on the front joint - Original extractor to centre pipe - was this clamp attached to the gearbox/remote or was it just a plain clamp from the factory?

Also the rear clamp on the tail pipe - plain clamp or factory part?

Front clamp attached to an angled lug on the remote housing.

Pretty sure the rear clamp is a standard U bolt one.

The front clamp bolt is a real PIA to get in as it goes in from the top.
The original rear clamp at the muffler outlet was the wire hose clamp type.
IIRC (it was 50+ years ago) the muffler inlet was welded to the front pipe.
The most interesting design feature of the original muffler was that it rusted out a day after the 12 months warranty expired.

Edit:
After seeing Doug's parts list and pic it reminded me that the clamp for the front pipe on the rear sub frame hanger was also the wire type.
The original front clamp was only the clamp piece which, IIRC, had one elongated and one round hole plus the large bolt, washer and lock washer.
The other bracket and bolt is for something else, maybe if you fit the original type pipe to a rod change box?????

The front clamp is currently part GEX7054 (was 21A930).

I got the kit pictured below from MKO (part GEX7054K). Haven't tried to fit it yet so I don't know what all the bits are for. I assume the thicker bolt and square washer are for the clamp to pipe and the thinner bolt and flat piece for attachment to the remote extension housing. Can someone who has experience confirm?

Thanks for the parts break-up. It explains why I got the wrong mounting (#9) when I ordered some exhaust bits from MKO. Lucky I still had the old one with cotton reel mount bolted to the bkt.

Interesting that the rear clamp - HCS1217 is of the wire type.

Hope to post some pictures soon.

Still looking for a Lucas 4ST Solenoid dated year 69.
Working or not working is fine.

It's worth noting that the original front pipe to extractor clamp was more of a "P" shape from side on rather than the "Q" shape shown in Doug's pic.
Also 1275 extractors are 1/4" longer/taller than the 997/998 type as the 1275 block is 1/4" taller than small bore blocks.

I've found the Clips HCS1217 in my parts collect :-) and working on a front pipe clamp.
Would you have any photo's of the front clamp fitted for interest?

That brings back memories. I always thought the exhaust sounded much hornier with a burnt out rear muffler. 50 years later, no thanks! :lol:

Do you have a photo of the bracket fitted? I am about to refurbish my exhaust system for my Mk2 S, but was having difficulty working out what bracket to buy and where it attached.
