Bought both of these: one is supposed to be off a metro turbo and the other was just advertised as a UK Hiff 44 . They are different slightly : need to know what the bits are on the side and whether either is better or worse . I can’t find any rebuild info on these but I do have a kit for the turbo version (I think) Any and all experience welcome on this , learning as I go along . Thanks chaps ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

the clean looking one on the right has an "ORFCO" valve, which I assume stands for Over Run Fuel Cut Off - which would be an economy device... but it looks like there should be a solenoid looking thing sticking in to the bottom of it. I'd love to pull it apart and see what it does https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-WZX1516 I have a HIF44 with an electronic choke, that's a weird bit of gear... |

Thanks Simon that is interesting. I think functionally both carbs operate similarly however I’ll need to setup the linkages to suit the mini. The reco one may be off an Austin something ....(edit : maestro or Montego mid 80s) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

The one on the left (reco, yeah?) looks nice but it doesn't have a choke mechanism (the holes are blanked off) so once the car is tuned properly you won't be able to start it - slightly inconvenient The HIF44 I use on my car is the same as the grubby one on the left - putting it on the car is seriously the best thing I ever did for it, it runs so nicely. Even after not using the car for a couple of months, I can reach in, pull the choke out and it just starts by turning the key, no need to touch the accelerator pedal, turns over for maybe 2 seconds then it's off Happy to send a picture of what the linkages look like, it's actually off the car at the moment (engine is out) |

That would be perfect thanks Simon Yes the reco one doesn’t have a choke mech. I think it originally would have an automatic one of some kind. Will be interesting to play around with . Yes the other one I’m pretty certain is off a metro turbo so I could bolt it straight on .....with a little less bling Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Hi simonw neither one is a turbo carby the clean one is not off a mini and the dirty one is but not turbo. The rebuild kit that you have will still do the job just you will have seals left over. A turbo carby has a ring on the top of the bell to fit a clamp to stop the top from popping off under boost. It also has the choke on the right side and the throttle on the left side plus its got a highway lean out. Under the bell there will have a seal as well. |

simonw wrote: ![]() you're basically looking at my setup there, except I have my choke connected ![]() Next thing you need is the abutment plate, and the little spring clip for the choke cable Look up part number CAM4942 for the plate, dig around for the clip |
