Hello All . I bought the belts from MK they work well except for one problem ,when you adjust the seat back it hits the retractor ,not good for my new seats. I have the bolt adjustment with the wing nuts max rearwards I am 178 cms and I need some leg room. Anyone had this problem ? I would like to stay with the retractable belts if possible. TY Allen |

Mount the retractable housing of the seatbelt inside the rear guard bins. This will keep them out of the way. This was done on my Mk2 but since been removed. |

If you mount them to the bins the bins will tear off the floor in a prang. I had a Mini someone had done this mod to. Yes, late Clubbies had them inside the bins, but with a captive nut welded to the inner sill. You could duplicate this. |

Why not go for the original type? |

My Mk 2 sills were rusted out, plus the floor, so I replaced all with a Clubby one, as it has all the correct hydro pressings etc. The captive nut is welded to a reinforcing plate which is spot welded to the inner sill, for the required strength. So, a genuine S, but not an original one anymore. Am I worried? No. I cannot live without retractables. |

Looks like I am staying with the retractable belts ,I only needed a small modification to the seat mounting brackets ,moved the seat 22mm to the center of the car this gives me 8mm clearance between seat and retractor, Another big benefit is the seat is now closer to the center of the steering wheel which makes a better driving position .I don't know any other car except a Mini where the steering wheel is not in line with the center of the seat. I think later Minis had wider seats so this modification is only applicable to Round Nose Minis. Thanks for the comments. Allen |

To put rear seat belts in early minis, I'm lead to believe you need to install the engineered mounting brackets in the boot area. To do a similar thing to the front mounts, would they need to be engineered also. |

I would say YES. Even though one replicated the later mounting points with total competency, the nanny state we live in would not be happy unless signed off on. |
