Recently I fitted a new harness. Fits ok the only problem is the bunch of wires around the bonnet lock what a mess of wires ,does not look good and a safety hazard. The problem could be fixed if the harness was redesigned in that area Has anyone changed the wiring and sent a sample to the harness suppliers ? This would be a good project which I might do next year ,as I am sick of shopping with she who must be. Allen |

You will probably find as I did, they are just made to an original sample, by a company that don't really care if they fit or not. Although mine is a later model (SPI) than yours, it's still a birds nest there. I just spliced extra wires to avoid this. Some of the stuff you get from some suppliers is barely up to scratch, which makes it hard when the original part you're after is made of unobtainium. |

If you have a Mk2, the wiring harness is mostly exposed wiring with occasional tape bands which does look a bit average. Having just finished the Mk1 where all the harness is taped until the wire emerges near its destination, it is much neater. I retaped the old harness, added extra circuits and used sleeves, or tubes, to group wires going to the same place. Also used a cable tie to keep the wiring up under the slam panel and out of sight. |

Allan, I moved the headlight bullet connectors as far as they'd go to the drivers side, minimising the nest of wires near the bonnet lock. Use the factory welded tabs to hold it there and you'll find it tucks up there quite well. Mat |
