Hi, I have a totally standard 1990 Rover Mini 998. I have a 12G295 head in the garage doing nothing. I was just thinking of fitting it on my Mini (It has been skimmed by 80 thou and the chambers are around 23cc, so it should be ok on The CR).
I was wondering if there would be any point fitting it but retaining the standard exhaust, manifold, carb needle etc? Would I need a stage 1 kit to get any increase in power.
Cheers

If you are fitting a higher performance head you will probably need to change the needle as the fueling needs will change.

There might not be much of a performance increase if the restriction in the system is the stock cam, the stock cast manifold or something else.

The greatest noticeable improvement I made to hotting up my mini K years ago wasn't the Lynx modified head, but "Sonic" LCB extractors and Cooper S sized exhaust.

Thanks for that. I will most probably fit the 12G295, change the carb needle, adjust fuel and timing and eventually fit a stage 1 kit if needed. Considering my mini has done 80,000 miles, I really don't want to push it too much by fitting a new cam

I'm sure there'd be no harm in fitting a new cam and followers, and extractors are cheap enough too. I wish I had a 295 head to put on mine!
