Hi

I was wanting to put new door pins in my hinges

What does everyone do to strip the old hinges? Acid dip or paint stripper ?

Thanks

Just check that the bush in the centre section of the hinge has not been worn so badly that the pin has worn away the bush and continued into the surrounding metal to make the hole so large that a new bush won't fill the gap.
Also check that none of the pins have seized in the centre section of the hinge, where the bush fits on the short end of each hinge. If the pin seizes here, the pin will begin turning in the top and bottom section, where it is meant to be fixed. Eventually the hole will be too big to take another pin.
I use paint stripper, a stainless steel scouring pad and a bucket of water with washing soda dissolved in it to help clean the scouring pad.
A mix of caustic soda (drain cleaner) in a plastic container also strips paint after a soaking - but read the instructions and follow them.
