Hey, Wondering what peoples thoughts are regarding the new Cooper S front aprons being sold by minisport at the moment?, Looking to hear if they are an accurate replacement, problematic to fit ? and/or of reasonable quality or best spend the time repairing the existing one? Cheers, |

They look pretty good, and great if you need one. They're not spot on the same in a couple of details to do with the brace, but its good to keep all this in perspective. |

Cheers 1965 - 1966 MK1 S had a central vertical brace spot welded. 1966 - 1968 MK1 S had an angled brace pop riveted. 1968 - 1970 MK1 S and MK2 S had an angled brace spot welded. 1971 MK2 S had an off centre vertical brace and an angled brace both spot welded. Here is a comparison between a 1968 - 1970 NOS front apron and the Minisport panel. Attachment: NOS MK2 Cooper S front apron.jpg Attachment: Minisport front panel.jpg

Usually the guys that give info are good especially Gotto.I have fitted these Heritage panels and they require a lot of work if you want originality .The large vent hole on the left hand side, number plate brackets. O.D of park light area, light will fit but the panel is different, Bonnet lock platform which needs considerable work. They will always need to be bent at the ends to fit the curve of the front guards which makes them a bit longer, Fixable with dolly and small hammer.Minisport are a good supplier of parts. There is also a way to fit these panels with no distortion. Also make sure the guards don't close up when the old panel is removed a length of 19mm tube tack welded to the front of the guards will be required. Most Minis have one side of the front subframe higher because of hard driving, you can level the subframe without much problem. This will fix any wheel alignment problems except toe which is adjusted. Allen |
