Post subject:  Aftermarket seats and fitting

Evening Gents,
Just having a think about fitting aftermarket seats to my 1970 Mini k.
I’m 6’2ā€ so a rather large chap. Looking for suggestions on seats, cobra, recaro, autotechnica etc.
are these easy to fit in a Mini with the appropriate base / mount kit?
Do the mount kits need to be welded in? Do they need an engineers certificate?
Any help would be awesome.

I have Cobra classics in my '70 Matic. OK fit but their original foam crumbled to powder. I had them repadded by a local trimmer.

I have fitted Autotechnica low backs to a couple of cars using their supplied runners and some custom attachments. They are good value but if broad of beam you may not fit. They are slightly narrower than Cobras.

A 1970 car should not need an engineer report. These seats tilt as original.

I've got Cobra classics in my van, easy to fit with bespoke frames. They're red vinyl low backs.

Was going to put the same but black ones into my Cooper S but now thinking of going Autotechnica, which seem as good and cheaper.

On the other hand I've had cloth Cobras with headrest in my Rover for years and they've been fine - only problem being the cloth sides eventually wear through the driver's seat when you brush up against it by constantly getting in and out of the car.

I had MK1 Honda Civic vinyl seats in my Cooper S back in the mid 70s, they fitted ok but were heavy and not all that durable.

I've had both Cobra Classics and Autotecnicas in my car - the Autotecnicas are a far better seat.

I have autotechicas in one car and saas seats in the other- pretty much same design, both adr approved. I used cobra seat rails in the first car and mambas in the other (cobras way better)- both acceptable for rego as they are purchased aftermarket parts made for the mini so no issues with rego.
