| Post subject: | New door seals and door fittment |
What have people on here done to make doors fit/close better with new door rubbers. The lower corner is not flush with the body. I'm thinking of spacing out the hinges where they attach to the body. Any thoughts? |

That's how most of the doors and boot lid fit. I have regapped my C. S. which and I now have excellent gaps even the bonnet fits well. I did this when the body was in epoxy primer. To get the gaps correct I used a cross pein hammer curved planishing hammer and 2 small dollies no welding ,stretching edges and tapping back panels, NO body filler. Most concourse minis have bad gaps on all the panels. The starting point is new pins and bushes in the hinges, You can twist the door and make sure the door fits correctly to the rear side panel. To do the twist use a piece of timber wrapped in a rag hold the timber either at the bottom of the door so it contacts the sill panel, or waist height depends which way the door needs twisting, the exert pressure on the door .All old cars have bad gaps have a look at an old Mustang I spent 4 days fixing gaps on a car that ended up a concourse winner. None had perfect gaps from the factory either. Some better than others but that's what you get with mass production and assembly lines. They do look good with nice gaps but a bit of character doesn't hurt either!! |

Stibbsy, is it the lower corner furthest from the hinge that is the issue? Are the other 3 corners good? If so a little twist on the door might be the trick as p7676 mentioned. |

Bend inwards the lower flange which the door seal attaches to, use a small block of wood and hammer. It may crack the paint where the corner is, you can touch it up with a brush, also you don't see it. Remove the door rubber first on the lower flange and check if it closes better. |
