Hi,
I took the head off my 1098 the other day which has twin carbs and LCB extractors. It was a pain to take the twin carbs and the exhaust off the head to remove it. I wonder could I have left the carbs and exhaust on and removed the exhaust from the under side of the car to make it easier? It was hard to flex the exh manifold past the studs so I slid it out of the mating piece of exhaust instead and took the manifold with the head. It’s hard to get to the manifold nuts too.
How do others do it?

Disconnecting the engine steady (steadies) can give some more movement. Also replacing studs with bolts (cap screws) will make it easier next time, although getting the bolts and manifolds aligned when fitting them can be a hassle.

I take the head off my 1360 with the exhaust and LCB left in place, by undoing all the head studs with 2 nuts to lock, then sliding the head forwards.
No need to get under the car...

I take the carbs and extractors off the head, so same way you did it. There are little things you can do to make it easier if you do it regularly, but sometimes it's just one of those things.

Think yourself lucky you're not working on a modern car - working on minis is really really easy compared to most moderns.
