no, rod change boxes have enough clearance for 1275 cranks

(if the remote box isn't selecting 1st and 3rd, then it may just be the knuckles on top of the diff housing need their bolts tightened)

Bugger the other reason for doing this engine swap I don't want to change the mounts in the tunnel as I want to put the original 1100 motor back in once I have rebuild it, unless there's a way to fit the remote gear selector with no modifications

Your 1st post is not clear what you mean. What model car are you talking about? Simon says No, you won't have a problem putting a 1275 cc engine on a rod change gbox, but it's not clear you want to do this?
I think the remote type is superior to the the rod change. Much more rigid. You need the bracket that bolts into the tunnel to support the remote housing rear rubber mount. Only one engine steady is needed versus 2 for the rod type box setup.

I did read Simon's post incorrectly, the car is a 1974 Leyland s it hasn't been on the road for a while so I think it's time to use a 1275 engine that I was saving for a van that I was trying to get, as I am unable to get said van I want to put this 1275 engine in something and this car is sitting in my shed, when I get around to restoring this car I want it to be as it come out of the factory it will be a matching numbers car hence I don't want to go changing to much

I would fix the existing remote gearbox that is already on the 1275.
But if its for the Clubman then do the rod change. They will all fit, just depends what you want the car to have.

it's not a big change to fit the remote gearbox into a car that had a rod change originally - it's 3 holes for the remote mount and they're not really visible... but if it's in unknown condition and not selecting gears then it's probably not worth screwing around with

Whichever gearbox you go with, do yourself a favour and at least put a new layshaft and layshaft bearings in it - takes about 5 minutes
