There was some discussion on the Ausmini Facebook group about the difficulty in reaching and opening/closing the Mini rear quarter windows when larger front seats or a roll cage are installed. Thought the solution shown in this YouTube video might be of interest. I put it into importmonsters website for price and text conversion - yep the asking proce is $490 so not cheap, but I don't think it would cost anywhere near that to replicate. Looks like most parts could be obtained from jaycar. I'll add it to my project list.

Thats very ingenious. It seems to use a variety of 1/4" socket extensions and universal joints. It might not cost much in parts but there would be a lot of messing about and time spent in tracking down components and doing the electronics. Personally, I'll keep the low back seats and reach around and flip 'em by hand.  Tim |

I though of this in the past but that is a much better solution than I had in my mind. Cool but at $490 it's too expensive for me. |

The mechanism is based around a worm drive motor which is bolted under the rear parcel shelf via a custom bracket. Then to connect the motor to bracket that rotates the window latch, the kit has a convoluted combination of : coupler, 1/4" extension bar, 1/4" adapter, hex adapter and then another bracket. The main issue (apart from aligning everything properly) I see is that the kit has a black square block just below the rear quarter window latch which apparently screws into the something on the C-pillar (see the video winabbey posted : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37tNNllsRc0) but I had a look on my Mini shell and there there is actually nothing there to screw into below the latch. There is nothing difficult about the electronics - just a manually operated DPDT switch per motor (no auto-stop function like normal power windows). Replicating this idea is on my list for my build and I have even already ordered a (metal gear) worm drive for initial tests. Places like Jaycar/Altronics do not sell these worm drive motors - you have to get them from specialised electronics or robotics places (or eBay). |

Rovers have an extra panel in the C pillar for seatbelt mounts, so the plastic block probably attaches there. |
