Post subject:  output shaft /drive flange question

I am disposing of an old auto tansmission and have just removed the drive flanges to keep being the same as cooper s style
I am guessing that the diff output shafts are different to minis and not worth removing but I would just like to clarify that thought
Cheers

Yes, make sure you keep the whole set! Take out the whole diff assembly as one piece - crownwheel, diff, side covers and output shafts. There are also the collets and washers, bolts which are expensive to get new. The side covers are unique to auto cars but worth keeping

I really only want to keep the parts that interchange with minis

The diff cage in autos don't seem to score up the seats where the planetary gear thrust washers spin - maybe better oil filtering?

Bill, the diff carriers down score-up the thrutsts much (compared to manuals) simply because the automatics don`t spin one wheel (generally)... so there is very little (apart from simple cornering differentiating) time spinning the little gears, & very little "power" output in the autos generally being driven by little ol ladys :-)

Looking at the middle one here, the manual and auto are the same (apart from the crown wheel)
