Post subject: | Fuel gauge showing half way when empty |
HI guys, I have a fuel gauge issue, its showing half, even though the tank is empty..... I have a new float in the tank ( and sender unit) also I disconnected the wires and its still going to half way.... Any ideas? I am thinking it has to be the voltage regulator the Temp gauge is working fine though MK1 Cooper S Cheers Brett |

When you turn the ignition off does it remain at half? |

Run an ohm meter over the sender to check it goes from around 260ohms empty and 20 ohms full. Check to see if you have 10V from the stabilizer. It will be on/off voltage. 13V DC means the stabilizer has gone closed circuit. If that all checks out ok then you can try adjusting the gauge through the slots in the back. |

yeah the thing that has me thinking is the Even disconnected the 2 wires from the tank its still showing half, so it has to be at the gauge to to stabilizer |

The gauge grounds through the tank sender, so with it disconnected then it is partially grounding either within the gauge, or between the gauge and the back of the car. Is it somehow connected to a gauge lamp? |
