Haven't found an answer yet but still looking. Where did that part number come from? Cast into the part?

Found it on an engineering drawing, shown as being for the Morris 850 and 1100, introduced into production in Aug 1963.

The letter Y in the part number prefix means it is an Australian produced part. The UK part number is BTA145 which strangely appears in the Oz parts books instead of the AYG3037.

If you need anything further let me know. I have the BMC drawings for the components and complete diff.

Cooperess - I note the file name for your photos says Mini. Were you looking for a better description, perhaps of the exact Mini model(s) it applies to?

Are these diff cages interchangeable with all Mini's?

The later A+ diffs used different thrust washers with tangs on them. This prevents the thrust washers spinning and ruining the diff cage. Otherwise I think they're all interchangeable.

I also have BTA142 diff case, is that suitable for the Mini?

The Oz Mini parts books shows BTA145 as being used in all Mini models, from 850 through to Cooper and Cooper S. I can't comment on whether this applied in practice.

It would be interesting to see the BMC drawings to check my diff cases. Both diff cases AYG3037 & BTA142 came from Mini gearbox diff's.

John Smidt told me these were made here by Borg Warner. Primarily for Morris 1100 production but also Mini.
(Edit) he said they were red like this one is.
That number on it is the casting number, not part number. Google 1 either side of it.

Googling BTA142 and AYG3037 has come up with zero responses.

BTA142 appears in the Morris 1100 parts book, and seems to be very similar to BTA145. No idea what the difference is.

You can't find AYG3037 because BMC used the UK part number BTA145 in parts books and other external references. See the drawing below.
