Hi everyone,

As per engineering requirements, I am required to install a front windscreen demister.

As my deluxe has no form of a heater whatsoever, and I've never had one before, could someone please tell me every part I will need to get this done?

I was thinking of purchasing this heater:

from the demister outlets to the heater, what will I need!

I remember 13secmini was told by the engineer that he needed a demister in his Starlet powered Mini. So he used a 12V computer fan, there's nothing mandating that it has to be heated air.
Real men don't NEED heaters.

That heater is made by T7Designs, last time I checked it was cheaper to buy from them than Minispares or Minisport. Probably put one in my car when I get around to it...

Does your brick still have the matic heater

Yes, but demisting in traffic was non existent as there is no fan. I keep the heater for its aux radiator benefit.

I added an Attwood 3" bilge blower to the ducting. One of these would suffice for demisting IMO, no heater required.

Just be aware that there is a proper test procedure for demisters that are being fitted to cars requiring engineering.
It isn't just a case of sticking a fan on the dash.

I run that heater in my car mate. Satisfied the engineer

What will you need?

Power - simple wiring -red wire and black wire. At a switch to activate it.

Air - Clark Rubber or similar sell the hose you can use to direct air to the vents

Vents - you can buy the plastic air guide vents second hand (as I did). Or I think you could simply join the hose to the rectangular metal vent you probably have on the RH side.

Heat - use a heater takeoff from the head, hose from there through the holes in the firewall they use to the pedals in LH cars. Into the heater matrix. Another hose from the heater matrix into the bottom radiator hose using the specific hose that includes the heater return bit in it.

Lemme know if that doesn't make sense and I'll clarify.

I've installed but not got around to hooking up a Mini K heater and ducting system in my '67 DeLuxe. As someone mentioned, the drivers side windscreen vent has an odd shaped steel box welded to it so you only need a vent manifold for the left hand side. The system worked well when it was in the Mini K, a good option if you can find one...

Mini K optional heater was generally the same as was standard in a MiniMatic, a fresh air heater under the bonnet. But had no fan as I mentioned above.
It means you can't fit a booster there, but my VH44J now lives under the dash, there's plenty of leg room.

the heaters I had in 2 Mini K's (the '70 and '71 I think) were definitely not the Minimatic type and they had a fan. They were fitted in the same location as the the Cooper S heater but of different design. The heater housing was made of plastic and a small steel control panel consisting of 2 push pull cables (1 opened the heater valve, the other operated a flap to direct hot air either to the windscreen or the foot wells) and 1 on/ off toggle switch, was bolted to the lower dash rail just to the right of the steering column.
Perhaps they are the same as Clubman heaters? I wouldn't know because oddly enough I've never really been close up to a Clubman in 37 years of owning Mini's!

The Clubman type plastic bodied heater was fitted to Mini Ks (and Cooper Ss) at the same time as flappy handle doors, December 1970 to satisfy ADR requirements. Under bonnet Matic type heater was optional before that.

The value of my car just went up, it has a "Cooper S" heater!

Perhaps someone who is lucky enough to have one of those 170 odd flappy door handled Cooper S's can post a photo of the interior?
