| Post subject: | Anybody have an opinion on SCA body filler? |
To my dismay I've discovered that the people restoring my car did not fit the A panels I supplied but instead bogged them up  .Buggers....I need to do a temporary repair and the SCA stuff is $15 for 500mL. Seems to be too cheap to be true. Any one have any thoughts on this stuff? Thanks Michael |

it's OK, but I found I got more pinholes than with the Septone stuff |

Thanks Michael What a real shame to hear that Michael  I know if it were me id be bringing the car back to them with a big- please explain?? No doubt they have told you they fitted them and charged you accordingly? |

Hi mini20, It is very disappointing particularly because they did a good job elsewhere. They took it back to bare steel and fabricated a new boot floor and other panels. i just don't understand why they didn't replace the supplied replacement panels.... I didn't see the finished bodywork before the paint went on, my fault.. Taking the car back to complain would entail driving it back to Indonesia again which is a bit far to go..! I'll just have to wear it and figure out how to do it myself in the future.. |

One of the best plastic fillers is the soft filler made by PPG .You can buy it from panelbeating suppliers .Make sure the panel is clean and sanded, finish the filler with 220 and black guide coat, the filler will also adhere to paint if the paint is sanded with 180 or 220 grit. The A panels are not hard to fit you need to cut them to fit 6mm under the of the existing A panel which gives you a lap joint and you maintain existing door gaps. I can do them with a MIG and a small amount of body filler. The best thing is when the A panels are removed you can fix the inner panels if they are rusted. Allen Note abrasive grit is measured by lineal inch eg 24 grit 24 aluminum grits per lineal inch. Aluminum Oxide is a synthetic material about 8 on the MOH scale, diamond is 10 that is why we don't use sand paper anymore Silicon Carbide is also good especially for wet rubbing. P7676 |

I was lucky as we had some panel van side skins from John.My door steps were buggered Been bronzed patched etc New A panels came as part of this. The lapped repair is a great idea so your gaps stay right.Rob was making his own repair sections from memory . The rear quarter repairs werent easy Stretched from accident damage .I would say 40 tiny shrinks in each with John the beater remote controlling my oxy and wet rag by yelling at me . When the red spot was as big as he wanted it was "GET OUT GET OUT" Ive since had counselling lol. Was traumatic but a great result .Mainly Rob working his ass out and pushing me lol. |

strange I have never put more than 8 hot shrinks in any badly damaged panel .It depends on how you repair the panel eg correct way to rough out planishing then hot shrinking and more planishing if you overshrink just planish the centre of the last shrink. When you do a lap joint the new panel goes under the old panel always tack weld first then check panels etc you don't want a lot of weld creep.P7676 |
