Does a 1970 Morris Mini K need to be engineered for registration if it has had a 1275cc motor installed with a 7 port head and twin 40mm Webers?

Ive been told it does ( visually obvious that it will be producing more than 20% extra power than largest factory option)

Also been told it doesn't need to be engineered.

Cheers

What state are you in?

Go and talk to an authorised engineer. They'll be able to tell you if it legally requires engineering based on Vehicle Standards (VSI) according to their interpretation of the rules

However, only a licensed roadworthy inspector is qualified to tell you, they are checking your vehicle on behalf of your state registration body. Their job is to ensure that your vehicle fits within all relevant rules and restrictions, and that it is fit for road use.

If you front up to a roadworthy inspector and they say "no, sorry, it needs to be engineered", then yes, you need to get it engineered. If they say "no, it's fine", then it doesn't need to be engineered.

In Victoria (VicRoads) my friend needed an engineers report for his Mk1 Cortina with a 1.6L Ford Pinto engine in it...

You do not mention if you have replaced the front drums for discs

Yep long story short, ask an engineer or registering person.

If in NSW and if talking to the same individuals I have spoken to/my experience:

If the car is already on the system and badged/recorded as a smaller capacity, it'll raise an eyebrow.

If it's not on the system and/or its badged as a higher capacity they will not know and just register it. (Ie here's my "Cooper S/LS, there you go", like too many other people have clearly done).

The correct thing would be engineer who would also need to see disc break upgrade.

Depends on the individuals. So I'd recommend you pick an assessor, ask them, do what they want, go back to them when you're done.
