Post subject:  Wiring arrangement for a Lucas starter solenoid.
I have a Lucas starter solenoid with the push button rubber top suitable for the 1966 Mini.
I don't want to install it without checking the wiring layout for fear of incinerating the car, as the existing (about to be replaced) solenoid is the newer flat type with different terminal layout.
Can any one give me a description of the connection arrangement please? - My car is negative earth.

Here are some before and after of mine. Yours was the opposite to my car, I had the early solenoid fitted instead of the later one. Change from the 2ST to the 4ST was at YKG2S2 3966.

Ignore the mounting of my old one - the push button should be at the top.

Brown wire is to be connected to the battery lead post and feeds the regulator and fuse box.

The red / white wire is the switch wire from the ignition switch. It should be connected to a separate terminal on the side of the solenoid.

Excellent. I bet your engine bay is starting to look the goods now.

Here is a copy of the change point from the 2ST to 4ST if you need proof at your next show and shine.

Notice it says the manual-operating control is between the two terminals, how many have you seen like that?

Not sure if they used red or black buttons.

My old solenoid had no cover, red or black, but the internals were there...
Thank you GTO Green for helping me out, & yes, the engine bay is getting heaps better, looking more & more like the 1967 brochure pic with every modification.
I managed to find a NOS angled heater tap of the correct type too, but not installed yet for the All British Day on Sunday..

No button on mine, would have been handy, today I had to use a screwdriver. (trying to sort out an oil pressure relief valve issue, got it out but of course oil went everywhere. Was one of those days...)

Mine is YKG2S4 1946 so based on that it should be as per your last two photo's as well.
The one I'm running at the moment has Lucas England so wish to change to Lucas Australia.
Just might be a hard find but you just never know :-)

There must be thousands of used ones about as they were used across the BMC/Leyland Australia range for a long period. I would call Matt at ReadSpeed or Brian at Link as they both deal in secondhand parts. See the Mini Businesses folder.
